A narrow canal house reorganised around a full-height atrium that pulls daylight to the lowest floor.
One cut through the floor plates changed the whole house.
Strategy
Canal houses are deep and dark. By removing a slice of each floor plate we created a vertical void — an atrium — that brings a single column of light from roof to basement.
A folded steel stair sits inside the void, detailed as a piece of furniture rather than infrastructure.
